Alexander Morozevich Wins Biel 2006
Not only did GM Alexander Morozevich win the Biel international Chess Festival this past week, he won it in style finishing a point and a half ahead of his nearest opponent with 7.5 out of 10. Morozevich's creative style of chess play, willingness to try agressive sacrifices and desire to take new approaches at the board makes him a very exciting player to watch. Six grandmasters played in this year's event, GM Alexander Morozevich (RUS 2731), GM Teimour Radjabov (AZE 2728), GM Magnus Carlsen (NOR 2675), GM Lazaro Bruzon (CUB 2667), GM Andrei Volokitin (UKR 2662), and GM Yannick Pelletier (SUI 2583).
Morozevich opened the tournament off to the right start beating Bruzon with the black pieces. Round two was a more difficult challenge as the young superstar Carlsen showed how the game is supposed to be played. Carlsen went down a pawn in the middle game, playing white, and still came back to win.
After round two, the russian master went on a four game win streak only to lose to Carlsen again in round seven! Perhaps Carlsen has Morozevich's number? Two more solid wins and a draw in the last round gave "Moro" the championship.

Final Standings:
1. Alexander Morozevich (RUS, 2731) 7.5
2. Magnus Carlsen (NOR, 2675) 6
3. Teimour Radjabov (AZE, 2728) 6
4. Andrei Volokitin (UKR, 2662) 4
5. Yannick Pelletier (SUI, 2583) 4
6. Lazaro Bruzon (CUB, 2667) 2.5
